2** divers

Independent diver acc. ISO 24801-2 (formerly EN 14153-2)

aim

The aim of the diver 2** training is the ability to
to complete dives up to 20m safely and controlled independently with an equivalent partner (diver 2**).


authorization

The diver 2** has the right to dive independently with a diver 2** or higher worldwide. Equipment can be rented anywhere in the world.

precondition

The prerequisite is the successfully completed 1* course or equivalent training
the treatment of special topics

  • orientation
  • Night diving and diving with limited visibility
  • mountain lake diving
  • oxygen application

For this incl. at least 26 additional dives completed during the specialty courses.

requirement

In addition to the teaching objectives of the 1* diver, whereby the depth range is extended to 20m, a 2** diver must master the basics of dive management.

  • Open water ascents with alternating breathing
  • Return dives to origin with and without a compass
  • Recovery of an unconscious person from 10m water depth
  • Snorkel 1000m with full equipment on the surface
  • 40m distance diving
  • dive into and put on a diving device at a depth of 8 m
  • Being able to hold your breath underwater for 45 seconds

A 2** diver must be able to correctly assemble both his and his partner’s equipment, check that they are working properly and identify and correct any faults. Errors of a technical nature, which may only be remedied by appropriately trained specialist personnel, are excluded.

He must be familiar with the most important basics of equipment care.

In theory, he must be aware of the relevant physical and medical principles and their effects on the body during a dive and behave accordingly.

Furthermore, he must be able to plan and calculate dives both inside and outside of the no-stop time as well as repetitive dives.
In the technical area, he must be able to explain the function of the individual pieces of equipment (jacket, machine, depth gauge, computer, etc.).

He must be aware that – except for dives with a diving instructor 2** or higher – he is trained to a depth of 20m and that this must be observed.
